What is Autism?

According to the American Psychological Association, Autism is “the most severe developmental disability.” Impaired social and behavioral interaction are just somesymptoms of Autism. Although there is nocurefor this disability, recent findings have given comfortand hopeto those suffering from it, as well as their loved ones.

Families of Children and Adults with Autism have had access to medicines that help the symptoms of this disability for quite some time. From the early 1900’s, when Psychiatrist Eugen Bleuler first used the term Autism to describe the symptoms of schizophrenia, to the current year of 2018; a large quantity of research has been gathered to suggest effective treatment for this condition. Such treatments are proposed depending on the individual and the severity of the condition. However, these treatments include: Medication, Social Skills training and Integration into regular classrooms. Medication minimizes seizures and hyperactivity, while Treatment Programs reward good behavior and discourage bad behavior.

How CBD Helps

Although there is no approach to Autism that treats everyone in the same way, addressing this condition by testing various methods can only result in a positive outcome for the given individual. Epsom salt baths, a Gluten-Free Diet, Milk and Soy Free Diets, and Sugar Free Diets are some natural recommendations given to patients with Autism.

Also, in a recent study, Israeli research has shown an “80% success rate in reducing problematic behavior in children with Autism using CBD. The study included 60 children, whose condition had previously not improved with the typical drug therapy treatment. Additionally, 50%of the children who participated reported an improvement in communication and 40% said that their anxiety symptoms have significantly improved.

The beauty of CBD is the lack of negative side effects that usually comes with most other medicines. The human body is extremely compatible with CBD because it has an endocannabinoid system which has receptors for cannabinoids. It is theorized that the reason CBD has such a positive effect could be because of its impact on cannabinoid receptors inside the brain of someone with Autism. CBD appears to “open” these receptors’ pathways to allow molecules to act on them. These pathways were previously closed off by the condition.

Compared to other medicines, CBD has been shown to be an effective tool to reduce a child’s negative behaviors while improving communication and social skills.Autism is can be a severe issue that needs to treated properly for a child to have a bright future. The difficulties lead some families into turmoil and the prices of current medications can be extremely debilitating especially to those on a tight budget.CBD could be a helpful alternative to the conventional approaches, but as with any new treatment, always consult with your health professional before going forward and changing any medications.
